LMS Management
This assignment was a wonderful introduction to Learning Management Systems and how to create a course in Canvas LMS.
To create the course, I made an outline based on Gagne's 9 Events of Instruction to understand what the course should include.
1. Gain Attention
Include a video to get the student's attention
"You have just won an all expense paid trip to Italy! It's now time to learn some basic expressions to fully enjoy your trip."
2. Learning Objectives
The student will learn basic expressions in Italian that will be useful during a trip to the country.
3. Stimulate Recall
A survey to review whether the learner knows any basic expressions in Italian.
4. Present Content
Go over the unit, which includes basic expressions and greetings and their pronunciation.
5. Provide Guidance
Share tips offer video resources that reinforce the material-Offer a printable guide sheet that includes the basic expressions and pronunciation.
6. Elicit Performance
Include a game of Kahoot! or a quiz to act as a review and test for retention.
7. Feedback
Survey students to find areas of difficulty or to share learning
8. Assess Performance
Set up a post-training discussion to verify areas that need reinforcement, as well as areas where the content was retained
9. Enhance Retention and Transfer
Review of the content, highlights of main key points, and a discussion to verify retention and transfer were performed.
Using Canvas LMS as a novice was not difficult. The tool is intuitive, and I was able to start working right away. When I got stumped in any section, I used the support provided by the self-enrolling courses of the app and some searches online to find answers. Many videos and supports are available, making the use of Canvas LMS a relatively simple process.
